ABOUT

“Photography isn’t what I do,” says Steve Vaccariello. “It’s what I am. The most important thing is the picture, not the technique or trend,” he says. “I want people to look at my photos and see the beauty in simplicity.” Vaccariello’s vivid and sensual photography capture the unexpected in his subjects. It’s the moment most often overlooked that Vaccariello interprets and immortalizes on film. With suggestive lighting, evocative shadowing and unique printing techniques, his work explores the idea of ethereal and evocative beauty, the nuances of form, and the subtleties and extremes of physical expression. “I’m a purist at heart – camera, light and composition – striving for that look of unique, but timeless beauty.”

Vaccariello was the subject of a special cover story in the country’s most innovative photographer’s magazine — the relaunch issue of Nikon World. Vaccariello and his work were also featured in Digital Pro Photo, American Photographer, PDN and Nikon World magazines. Vaccarriello has won dozens of awards for magazine photography, and his work was included in the best-selling book, “The Male Nude,” (Taschen, 1998), as well as “A Thousand Hounds” (Taschen, 2000) and “Graphis Nudes III” (Graphis, 2000).

Vaccariello’s work is owned by a number of notable collectors, including Bruce Weber, Mark Balet, Kevin Aucoin and the renowned contemporary art collection of Progressive Insurance. His prints are also housed in the permanent archives of the Leslie Lohman Gay Art Foundation. Born in Cleveland in 1965, Vaccariello works in Manhattan and travels extensively on assignments worldwide.
